RIVER
CITIES KITTY
WINS
PET IDOL CONTEST
Murphy
and his “mom,”
Anita Holloway of Shreveport,
won the 2009
News-Star Pet Idol Contest. Anita
adopted the handsome and dignified blue point Siamese-mix cat from
River Cities
Humane Society for Cats 13 years ago when he was just a tiny baby. He
had been thrown over the fence by a cruel
and uncaring person and was rescued and nursed back to health by the
shelter
workers.
Anita
and Murphy
graciously donated half of the $1,000 prize to River Cities’
“C. J.’s Fund,” a fund established to
help severely
injured and seriously ill
kitties who need major veterinary care.
“It
makes sense,” Anita
says, “They helped Murphy and now he can help them.”
THANK
YOU, ANITA AND MURPHY!!

HELP
CAT SHELTER
Fifty
members of the National Junior
Honor Society at Good
Hope Middle
School, West
Monroe,
visited the Cat Shelter on October 27, as part of their Community
Service
Project. They presented us
with a
generous donation, learned how the Shelter operates, and visited with
our
kitties and our two resident dogs. In
addition, Claudia Long and her Certified Therapy Dog, Mr. Spot, gave a
special
performance for these great kids. (Claudia
is a member of the River Cities Board and
is also a very active
member of PAWS of Northeast
Louisiana.)
Students
and teachers, we really enjoyed your visit and we thank you so much for
including us in your Community Service Project!

collected LOTS of supplies, including food, blankets, toys, pet beds,
office
supplies, cleaning products, and much more, which were then donated to
the
River Cities Humane Society for Cats, the Ouachita Parish Animal
Shelter, and
the Humane Society Adoption Center. Thanks,
too, to all those who donated items.
All
the great people who attended our 20th
Anniversary Open House.

Special Needs Kitties
We
have several special needs kitties at the Shelter who have been waiting
to be adopted for a very long time. These
kitties need a patient, loving person and a quiet home with no children
and no other pets. As
with all our adoptees, they are strictly indoor pets.
Here
are a few…
Blanche
and Dorothy
- Two sisters about six months
old with impaired vision due
to untreated conjunctivitus
when they were little.
They are both very
pretty; Blanche is a
tabby/calico and Dorothyis
a Siamese mix. They are so sweet
but timid. One
of Blanche’s eyes is cloudy and the other
has some scar tissue; Dorothy has only
one
eye. However, these
kitties require no special care. They have
no problems getting around once
they get used to
their environment and can see well enough
to chase
balls, toys, and bugs and have
no difficulty
finding their food, water, or litter
box. It’s
more
difficult
for Dorothy and Blanche to
adapt to changes in
their environment, so these precious cats
need a quiet,
stable home, strictly indoors,
with no other animals
or small kids. These
two sisters have never been
separated and truly love each
other. They must be
adopted
together. Blanche
and Dorothy are
just waiting
for someone with a great big
heart
to give them a permanent home. Won’t
you please be
that special someone?
Alvin
– An adorable
orange tabby Munchkin mix about a year old. He’s
extremely sweet but very
shy. He’s
extra cute with his short little
Munchkin legs. He needs a
patient,
loving person and a quiet home with no children and no other pets. As
with all our cats, he is strictly an
indoor pet. Do you have room
in your
home and heart for Alvin?
Great
news! Two of our
previously-featured special needs
kitties, Penelope and Mittens, have been adopted! Many thanks to the
wonderful
people who adopted each of them.
Won’t
you please try and help us find a home for these very special kitties?
